[Linux] CrystalHD 1080p Works! (For some videos)

Thanks again. Do you make this comment because you work for XBMC? I believe that this card works with other programs, but I understand if you work for XBMC and I need to find someone else to help me.

Is there a way in XBMC to stream video from any website desired?

Perhaps Gstreamer works with this card per "filters/gst/gst-plugin/" where I got the error message when running ./autogen.sh : "54: Syntax error: "}" unexpected (expecting "done"), and this script just needs to be fixed? The main thing we need on this set-top box is smoother full-screen streaming. It would be great if this could be done in the box for both XBMC and when streaming in Firefox (which I think uses Gstreamer). Thanks again, Mark

Hi Scott - I did some research on the Internet. You are the expert on this and I really appreciate your help! We really want to keep our Wave set-top box in Ubuntu, and it has sometimes been exasperating to do, but we need a version that does full-screen video smoothly. We are talking over 10,000 boxes a month and would prefer not to have to use a different motherboard and therefore complete new mechanical design. We are located north of San Diego, I have been in the PC business since it's beginning and my e-mail is [email protected] . If you want, we can switch our conversation to, and can follow the thread at http://xbmc.org/davilla/2009/12/29/broad...its-magic/ to see if there can be a solution to streaming in Ubuntu with this card soon. Thanks, Mark

Hi All,

I have problem using broadcom crystalhd BMC70015 decoder in XBMC,

When i play a mkv video , XBMC uses almost 100%CPU, i pressed 'o' while the video is running and found that the decoder used by XBMC is ff-h264.

And is see "ERROR: CrystalHD: open decoder failed" in xbmc.log
I also see "DtsAllocIoctlData Error" from libcrystalhd.

Steps To Reproduce:
-------------------------------
1) Run xbmc
2) In System tab select "Broadcom CrystalHd Decoder"
3) Open the video

PC Details:
-----------------
Distro: Ubuntu 10.04 lucid main

uname -a
Linux myubuntu 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:10:02 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

cpu:
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E7400 @ 2.80GHz

ram:1GB

Note: CrystalHD BMC70015 decoder is connected through Adexelec PCI-E to Mini adapter

XBMC Version:
----------------------
checked out from SVN on Dec2 2010.
config.log can be found here http://pastebin.com/Cev0hRKB

CrystalHD Driver Version:
--------------------------------------
07032010/
here is my complete xbmc.log:
http://pastebin.com/MTC2KKsB

MediaInfo:
---------------
http://pastebin.com/5kKxCLMz

dmesg:
-----------
http://pastebin.com/qy302449

lspci output:
-------------------
01:00.0 Multimedia controller: Broadcom Corporation Device 1615

lsmod output:
-------------------
crystalhd 72557 0

Why is "used by" 0 for crystalhd module and why is XBMC failing to open the decoder?. is something missing?

Thanks
Sami

Hi All, I found that the problem was due to libcrystalhd.
i tried after svn checkout of libcrystalhd3 and it works,
i.e. i see around 50 % CPU drop.

Now the CPU dropped from 100% to 55 % for 1080P video and i also see decoder "chd264" when i press 'o' when the video is running.

I think 55% is too much on 2.8GHz CPU.

can someone post their processor speed , configuration and %CPU usage for this video:
