you have to choose "custom" and then enter the plughw parameter manually by (onscreen) keyboard

just as it was already written in http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=556...stcount=11 and lots and lots of tutorials here

Hi,
I too am having the same problem:
Installed to USB drive from xbmc live 9.11 cd, using GT220 to output via hdmi to a Yamaha RX-V465 AV-receiver.

When I run aplay-l, I get the following:
Code:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC888 Analog [ALC888 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 1: ALC888 Digital [ALC888 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I have gone into system > audio output and changed the following:
- Audio output: Digital
- Dolby digital capable receiver : yes
- DTS capable receiver: yes
- Audio output device: plughw:0,1
- Passthrough output device: plughw:0,1

I've also tried plughw:0,0 for output and passthrough, but to no avail. Putting both settings to hdmi also doesn't work.

I've tried creating the asound.conf file with the following:
Code:
pcm.nvidia_hdmi {
  type plug
  slave {
    pcm "hw:0,1"
  }
}

pcm.!default nvidia_hdmi
pcm:iec958 nvidia_hdmi
but I don't have permission to transfer the file to /etc/modprobe.d/ even though I can access the folders via SFTP through Filezilla. Is there another folder with full permissions that I can copy the file to?

Is there anything else I can try? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!
