Logitach Harmony lag?

I had the same problem with the lag, decided to just give up and use this:

i solved the delay problem on mine. What i did was set up MCE Keyboard as a device and mapped these buttons as they seem to buffer better. Where with the MCE remote i had slow scrolling for example through movies, the MCE Keyboard has none of this fuss. i also map info to 'I' that sort of thing and in combination with event ghost, which i would advise anyone to use I now have a superb system. I have a key to open xbmc and send a command to my x10 to dim the lights. when i exit xbmc (another button) it closes the program and brings the lights back up.

I only have one activity but within this i have brought in my other device and mapped buttons to these. for exmple I'm in XBMC on my HTPC, I press a key that says PS3 and it switches my amp, my HDMI switch and projector to the correct settings another button xbox does the same and then again back to xbmc.

takes a while to set up, but ultimately worth it.

you can also program sequences. so for example i sometimes on shutting down the pc get the delayed caused by a program not closing, so i send a sequence after the shut down command to keyboard arrow left, then enter to force close.

dig down and it can do anything

OK. So i bought a Harmony 300i to replace a couple of remotes.
I am now running:
1. Old CRT TV (Logik) not the pride of the collection but it wont die.
2. Logitech 5.1 Z5500
3. XBMC Live (Linux) on a PC

I too have massive lag on the lists. the origional remote i had for the pc was really cheap: R70 and im using its ir for the H300i. i have NO lag though with the other remote so what gives? could it be inferior IR related?
Abnother thing is that try as i might, i cannot find a configuration for the
H300i that includes the "o" or "Tab" key; they are rather limited with setup facilities, its all online and you rely on preset configs.

Can any one with a similar remote and the "perfect setup" give me help with
1. best IR to use (i heard somewhere the HP IR works well)
2. how to make the remote startup on the PC media key instead of the TV
3. how to add above 2 keys to the damn thing!!

are there any local setup tools available that do not require using someone elses setup online?

Does anyone know how to adjust the delay using the latest Harmony software?

I'm using the latest version with a Harmony 300i on OS X 10.6.7.

The following steps didn't fix it entirely but it has made my remote so much more responsive than it was before:

Click on the Device's "Troubleshoot"
- Select "Show me more problems"
- Select "Device doesn't appear to receive every command correctly."
- Select "The device responds too much to some commands (for example, volume up increases the volume too quickly)."

Hope this helps somebody else.

Tried that and still no improvement. Also messed with the delays. Haven't tried using it in combo with EG but I'll give that a shot

Well changing the repeats down to 1 helped my lag issue a lot, also changed my delays back to defaults. One thing I've learned, changing delays to 0 is counter-productive, at least with my Harmony One. Still not quite as fast as my MCE remote but I can live with it, and will still tinker.

I just got my Harmony One and am a bit disappointed with the lag too. For me, it's like a second or two. Not the 0.2 seconds, I need to tinker I guess - it's a wee bit daunting tho. I have it set with the MCE Keyboard config.

Ah well..

I took the liberty of reviving this thread as I wanted to throw in my two cents and didn't think there was any point in creating a new topic. Also, the discussion here has been much more specific than I've seen at the Logitech forums.

I am also among the users who notice the slight, yet irritating lag when using a Logitech Harmony remote (the 515 model in my case). It's been over a year and I still cannot get used to it. As such issues are hard to discuss in words, I've recorded a quick video demonstrating the issue I'm facing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c_CGXKlEEY

This is the best result I got after a lot of tweaking and learning commands from the original remote. Is this the kind of delays you're experiencing? Sure, it looks like nothing, but try scrolling through a long list with a lag like that.

Also, I know comparing a remote to a keyboard is unfair, but you'll have to trust me that the original remote works just as well.

Plus, this is the behavior I get for all my devices. TV, STB, Hi-Fi react identically.

That lag is pretty standard for the Harmony handsets, even after you've tweaked the inter-key delay setting. I get exactly the same delay.

If you're scrolling a long list just keep the arrow button down, and you'll find the auto-repeat isn't subject to the delay (well not on Windows: I haven't tried Linux/Live).

How irritating you find the delay is very much personal opinion. I really like my Harmony because it's well built with a nice feel and controls everything I need with the minimum of setting up, so I'm not that worried about the delay. If it really gets to you I suppose the only option is to buy a different remote.

I agree with all you've said. I love my Harmony remote otherwise. Yet, if anyone would point me towards a different device with similar capabilities and no lag at all, I'll seriously consider switching.

After months of customer support from Logitech, much of which was useless, I got the lag and odd 'activity' error issues mostly resolved.

On my end, switching to the very specific HP IR receiver helped loads (the HP IR receiver P/N: 5188-1667 as per Poofyhairguy) - yet I still had issues.

Quick comment on the above...that recommendation is spot on - as I had an HP IR receiver that looked identical, but the p/n number was slightly off and the lag was dreadful.

After being fob'd off by a couple helpers who insisted that this remote was behaving as spec'd, I was able to communicate with a specialist who - step by step - tweaked my settings.

For instance, my television does not have a power on, power off button on the remote. It's simply a toggle. However, he found a 'code' that sends a power on specific signal. This helped when switching activities. It was a lot of trial and error which was annoying as their software for customising the remote involves WAY too many clicks and menu changes. But I got there and am finally generally satisfied with the remote.

i'd second this. it really reduced the lag for me.

the same thing is described here in step 1.4 (obviously when it mentions 'plex device' just think 'mce device' for us: http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Harmony_Support

i changed this setting from three to one.

ps. ive made sure the device im using on my harmony remote is the 'keyboard' as opposed to the 'remote'. i think that helps too.

the lag is still there but xbmc has become MUCH less annoying to use, especially when i'm typing in searches on youtube etc using the text message style input on the number keys of the remote.

I had the opposite experience.
Setting it to keyboard lagged, to remote doesnt.

To further the mystery, I have had many many harmony remotes and never ever had any noticeable lag until changing out my Harmony 700 for a Harmony One tonight. (This is the second 'One' I have owned)
The 700 went through all the menus very quick, as quick as I can keep hitting the up or down buttons. Tonight I got a new 'One' and choose 'replace remote' in the harmony software and sure enough there was an unacceptable lag.
I tried changing every delay and repeat I could find but none worked.

I then added a Microsoft Remote as another device, added it to my WATCH XBMC activity and mapped my direction keys to use the Microsoft Remote instead of Microsoft Keyboard and now the menus works as fast as can be.

Very strange. Also strange that I see no lag in any of my other activities, only in the xbmc menu until making the above change.
