XBMC Freezes when accessing NAS which is asleep
#1
My Network Attached Storage(NAS) shuts itself down and goes into low power mode after 10 minutes. I have my NAS set up as a network share, mounted to the hard disk in /home/mythtv/NAS. Under normal operation, the NAS works great. The problem is when the hard disk spins down. It takes about 10 seconds to spin up and it seems that XBMC "gives up" after a certain amount of time.

This log was 9.8 megs. I choppped out the 6 days which are irrelevant in the log. http://pastebin.com/gkpbx6Rb

This problem does not occur when I wake up the NAS from another computer before hand. I run Ubuntu on my Desktop. When the problem occurs, I can SSH in to the XBMC computer and access the drive just fine. So it is accessable and it happens only when my NAS is in sleep mode, and for some reason XBMC just stops trying and locks up completely during the 10 second spin-up time.

hey outleradam, I have a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo, which also goes into sleemode after a while of inactivity. But when I try to access it from XBMC I don't experience any issues, it just waits until the NAS is up again.

I'm running XBMC on a MAc os X system. So maybe it's an issue on OS level? I'm not that familar with the SMB protocol. but maybe you can look for some settings in linux which define the time-out period ?

Well, this is an excessively long delay. Most hard disks spin up within 3 seconds. This one takes about 8-10

Also, as I have stated, the operating system is reading the disk just fine. It is XBMC which gives up and freezes.
