Log here: http://pastebin.com/a7LyP3wM

I have manually installed the DirectX runtime.

If you look in your log at line 17 you'll see;

Code:
Found screen: Generic Non-PnP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, adapter 0

You haven't installed the correct video driver for your video card. The "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" is the one Windows uses if it doesn't have the correct driver for your card. You need to download and install the correct driver from your video card/motherboard manufacturer.

Whenever I quit and try to restart XBMC I keep getting:
"CApplication::Create() failed - check log file and that it is writable"

If I restart the PC it works fine. No errors in the log. No log file is produced when trying to restart XBMC.

After you quit XBMC open Task Manager and look on the Process tab to make sure XBMC has really closed. If you see a process called XBMC.exe it means XBMC has hung while closing.

I had actually used the Task manager to quit XBMC a few times as it was not responding.

I started to work backwards on any changes I had done recently. I removed the script.cinema.experience (2.0.53) from the addons folder and up to now seams fine.

Hi]]This is my log - getting the capplication creat failed - check log file and that it is writable error.

WHS 2011, ATI ES1000, not RDP

I have tried re installing several times. Slider is all the way to right on acceleration. Really struggling - any suggestions?

Might it be something to do with the Roaming part - if so how do i correct?

Windows 8 release preview 8400 64 bit installed generic drivers for my Nvidia GT 520 and broke XBMC. Clean installing 302.82 from Nvidia fixed it. Not sure how or why it worked but hopefully someone else finds this info helpful.

I suspect the ATI ES1000 is too old a GPU to use with XBMC.

Hey everyone, I just discovered I have this same issue. I'm running Windows Home Premium 64bit.

I haven't made any changes to my graphics card drivers, or direct x, and checked direct x and seems to be working fine. I'm trying to access xbmc from the computer directly, not through remote access. I uninstalled xbmc, and now it won't let me re-install. Every time i click the icon it just comes up with "capplication create failed xbmc - check log file and that it is writable" the only changes i have made to the computer was:

changing the workgroup name
downloading and installing Logmein Hamachi
and adding my movies and tv shows to my other pc over the home network via "Add network location, SMB" the computer i added the files too works fine, which is, ironically the computer I never use xbmc on.

I have tried system restoring up to a few weeks ago, but to no prevail. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated, I have no idea what the hell im going to do.

Open the debug log by pressing Windows-R and in the Run dialog type:

Code:
"%appdata%\xbmc\xbmc.log"

(including the quotes). Click OK and the log should open in Notepad. Copy and paste the log into http://pastebin.com/ and post the link it gives you here.

Just my £0.02

I've just installed xbmc on a Win2k3 server. The same server has been hosting the content for XBMC for some time - I've just started to use it as a client. Was getting the exact same error: capplication::create failed. Wasn't using RDP - was just connected locally.

Anyway, on checking dxdiag, it turns out directdraw wasn't enabled on my graphics adaptor. Switching this on cured it. Posting this as a possible option for some of the other guys out there who are having problems.

Also, for server builds - you might want to check the hardware acceleration in display properties -> settings -> advanced -> troubleshoot. At least on Windows 2003, this is disabled by default. I can't say what the default is in WHS or 2008 though.
