Mythtv Auto Skip
#1
Hi All,

First post here, so apologies in advance if this post is in the wrong place, or im not following protocol.

I have 9.11 LIVE installed on a USB stick, and working beautifully. I have it configured to show recordings from my mythbackend server. I have sucessfully hooked up the XBMC to Mythtv using uPNP and the myth:// protocol (both locate and play the files fine).

On both mythtv connection methods, i'm not seeing any commercial auto skip, which I believe is now supported in the 9.11 release.

I tried xbmcfreak live, with the same result.

I googled, and found the mythbox script, but as far as I can tell thats been either
a) superceeded by the native mythtv support in 9.11, or
b) not ported to Dharma-style addons yet

Does anyone have any hints on where to look? At the moment I'm stuck mid-transition to xbmc from mythfrontend (we are addicted to not watching commercials!). XBMC looks and feels soooo much better than the clunky myth frontend!

Cheers,

Nathan

Are you sure you recordings are being flagged?
I've been using the 'myth://protocol' method for sometime now with windows and ubuntu. Commercial skip works well for the most part, but not always. Some recordings in xbmc will skip at the wrong time or will hit a commercial and won't play the rest of the video.Huh

Mythbox might work for you, if you use a pre addon version of xbmc.

Thanks for the reply.

Yup, the commercials are being flagged, as the myth computer is the main HTPC unit at the moment (both backend and frontend), and it skips the ads.

I have this Asrock ion330 that im running XBMC on to "retire" the mythbackend to the study, and have a nice little box in the living room. The only show-stopper at the moment from achieving this is that I dont seem to be able to commercial skip in XMBC (something that is almost flawless in myth).

The existing mythtv frontend talking to the same backend skips the same programs fine... thoughts?

Commercial skipping is working nicely with windows7 and ubuntu-lucid.
