Dumping cable, looking for source of new show info

Question
I have been using XBMC on a Asus Revo for about a month now and I am ready to dump my $60 a month cable bill and watch everything on my XBMC. My only question is with out commercials in the shows I am watching how am I going to find out about new worthwhile shows and movies?

Does anyone have some good RSS feeds I can add to the feed reader build into XBMC that will list new shows, movies, etc...?

I searched the forums but I either didn't have the right search or this hasn't been talked about before.

Thanks

Google? Friends? Seriously though it's not a bad idea but where would you get a decent RSS feed from that mentions cool new shows? Add an antenna and tuner card for the media center for basic network TV and that will help?

Unfortunately where I am located is just below a large escarpment and TV reception was poor before the digital switch. All the antenna charts I look at now show that I will get one religious station.. Sad So it is almost mandatory to have cable or satellite to get any of the big networks.

I hope someone out there has a decent pop culture tv/movie feed that they enjoy and would like to share.

The TVDB is one source I use, and they have an RSS feed. You can view what shows are airing daily right from the site near the bottom of the page: http://www.thetvdb.com
or just copy the RSS feed: http://thetvdb.com/rss/newtoday.php

If this, next-episode, gets completed we can show what the next episode is for a given show as an infolabel

Is awesome... add all the shows you watch to the filter, and it will show you whenever new episodes are... you can also mark them downloaded/watched.
Kodi: Kodi 17.4, with Transparency!
50 TB Unraid Server: Docker Apps: SABnzbd, Sickrage, mariaDB
HTPC: Win10 (cause Steam), i7, GTX 1080

I've successfully ditched cable and automated my downloads into XBMC -- there's plenty of ways to get info about new shows without sitting through ads. I'm not sure an RSS feed running in XBMC would be very helpful in this case though. You'd want to read full-length reviews of episodes of new shows, right? If you subscribe to Newzbin or NZBMatrix, you'll have ready access to an RSS feed of every TV episode about 15-30 minutes after airtime, but this information is pretty meaningless without knowing anything about the quality of each show.

The Onion AV Club has great TV coverage, there's detailed reviews of every episode of every worthwhile show up within an hour or two of airtime. I'd suggest reading up on what's out there and, if it sounds good, just downloading the first season or two and bringing it into XBMC. Setting up SickBeard or another program like it will automate your downloads of new episodes to keep you up to date.

Once you have this all setup, you'll find yourself a season or two behind on most shows, so the actual airtime stops mattering. You just kind of get around to stuff.

I started playing around with SickBeard after you mentioned it, but I have a question. What is the easiest way to add a new show to it? Just create a directory for the new show in the xbmc TV folder, then add it? Or am I missing something in SickBeard?

Thanks

Add new single show, just type the path to where you want it and it will create the directory for you.

Geez I feel stupid... it's always the simple obvious things I miss. Thanks for the help works like a charm.

I don't know how active you are in the forums but many of the new shows I watch I learned from the forums...Not really from a "What's your favorite show" thread just from screenshots people post when posting problems or a skinner showing off a new skin/view.

From just using screenshots I found and love:
1. Dexter
2. Chuck
3. The Mentalist
4. Modern Family

And a few more that I like but really love I also learned about just from guys posting screenshots really, then I might google/youtube to learn more....
