I apologize if this is a known issue, I could not find this issue documented anywhere. I am running the nightly install of XBMC svn r32969. I have a vanilla AppleTV 3.0.2 patching using the atvusb_creator. I am using an HDMI cable to connect to my TV from the Apple TV.
First I will describe the symptoms:
If I begin playing Star Wars V, I get no sound in the movie and all sound in the interface dies. This means that when I exit the movie there is no clicking as I move around the interface and if I exit XBMC there is no sound from the AppleTV interface. I can reboot and the sound is restored, but if I begin playing Star Wars V the sound dies again.
I do this a couple times after rebooting just to make sure I have the steps reproducible.
I can then install XBMC 9.11, reboot, and go through the same steps playing Star Wars V. The sound never goes away. I can then put r32969 back on, reboot, playing Star Wars V and the sound goes away. Pretty cut and dry.
Another part of the issue is that I have the movie Airplane. If I play it, regardless of XBMC version (9.11 or r32969) sound never cuts out. This issue appears to be related to r32696 when playing a certain movie.
Here is a link to pastebin.org for my xbmc.log when I am running r32969. I am including all output from once I begin playing Star Wars V. Notice that there is an ERROR indicating an audio issue.

Here is a link to pastebin.org for my xbmc.log when I am running XBMC 9.11. Same deal, output begins when I begin playing Star Wars V. Notice that there is no ERROR output.

I hope this can be of help.
