Updating XBMC

tdw197 Wrote:you need to install ppa-purge.

Google it, its in a ppa.

After installing it, you can purge everything installed by the xbmc-svn ppa, then reinstall.

But... I don't know if xbmc is causing your problems, as that build has been excellent for me

Thanks, got ppa-purge installed but not sure how to purge the xbmc-svn so i can install the latest version.

tried sudo ppa-purge team-xbmc-svn

which seemed to start downgrading the XBMClive to 9.11 then it came up with an error.

Then trying sudo apt-get install xbmc resulted in it saying it was at the latest version. ARGHHHHHHHHHHH.

So how did anyonne upgrade the latest XBMCFreak XBMC to the latest SVN version ?

Going to revert to a backup from a few days previous but now confused what to run to upgrade.

If i run a full system upgrade on my revo r3610 i loose sound in xbmc and xbmc doesn't upgrade.

OK jason on my restored backup doing a

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

gives me

Code:
[sudo] password for xbmc:
Reading package lists... Done

The following packages will be upgraded:
  language-pack-en language-pack-en-base libfreetype6 libsmbclient

16 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 60.3MB of archives.
After this operation, 295kB of additional disk space will be used.

Which still isn't giving me an option to upgrade XBMC

and

cat /etc/apt/sources.list
Code:
deb [url]http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/[/url] lucid main restricted universe multiverse
deb [url]http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/[/url] lucid-security main restricted universe multiverse
deb [url]http://ppa.launchpad.net/jcfp/ppa/ubuntu[/url] lucid main

I don't know why but XBMC won't upgrade yet i never had an issue in Karmic.

I'm just running through step 6 but its only upgrading the same packages again (which will give me sound issues in XBMC, it says failed to init sound device).

Flomaster Wrote:what does

I will run after upgrade finished but from last time it said

Code:
apt-cache policy xbmc
xbmc:
  Installed: 2:10.0~svn32696~deb1-1~0lucid2
  Candidate: 2:10.0~svn32696~deb1-1~0lucid2
  Version table:
*** 2:10.0~svn32696~deb1-1~0lucid2 0
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     1:10.08~svn33122-lucid1 0
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ppa/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
     1:9.11-lucid3 0
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages

Yes just reran that line and got the same output.

And now i've no sound in XBMC, says failed to init sound device and XBMC is running like a bag of spanners on the main menu (possibly sound related ?).

Just because the SVN was updated doesn't mean all the builds loaded successfully. I got bit by this one in the early hours this morning.

I uninstalled r33122, removed the ppa, updated the source list, added the svn ppa, updated the source list.... and r33122 was listed as the latest build available. I thought I'd done something wrong, the ppa page listed a newer build. Couldn't figure where I'd messed up till I ticked "View Package Details" on the svn ppa page and discovered the build I needed hadn't loaded properly, so it wasn't available... and still isn't on this revo (r33221).

If you're trying to update from the main svn perhaps it wasn't your technique but just that the build you need wasn't available.
