Revo 3610 - Wifi really bad
#1
So I have read numerous places that the 3610 has really bad wifi signal strength, but the issue I am having is much worse. The adaptor goes totally offline (as in no wireless networks available at all) and then if I reset the adaptor it finds 5 or so. Also, my signal strength will be 54.0mbps and I will get about 10k/sec of throughput, sometimes less.

I am running Windows 7 with Wifi 802.11G. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Try changing the channel... you might be getting interference...

Or run a nice piece of Cat5e cable Big Grin

This is a nice article on wifi channels. There are some good tips in the comments too.

try other driver versions, that's your problem. I've had the same problem with my revo3600 (atheros) until I found a win7 driver that finally worked. had to try some different versions, though. finding them is hard but station-drivers has some. I would tell you which driver version finally worked but don't have access to the machine until the weekend.
give it a go!

Thanks for the replies. I have since used this tool to find a better channel to run off of:

WiFi Stumblr: http://tools.meraki.com/stumbler#q=

Updated my drivers via Ralink (not available by normal Windows Update, and includes a really helpful tool to see network stats and strenghts)

Things are better but by no means workable. Still have massive fluctuations of throughput. I have ordered a Wireless N router as well as a Wireless N USB adaptor on ebay. Total cost around $50. I should also note that I live in NYC and have about 30 wifi networks within range, although I know that many other people have this issue.

I will let you know how it works when the new equipment arrives.

ah okay, I read somewhere that newer revos now have ralink wireless cards instead of the atheros of the older models.

I think your plan is the best way to go since the antennas inside the revo are really no good use, there's even modding tutorials where some guys used dremels to install real wifi antennas on the outside.
