VDPAU making it right from the start
#1
Hi,

i just got my IOn2 system running, installed Ubuntu and now I want to install the VDPAU drivers.
I found 2 different approaches:

Code:
1    sudo aptitude install  linux-headers-`uname -r` libvdpau-dev libvdpau1 nvidia-185-kernel-source  nvidia-185-modaliases nvidia-glx-185 nvidia-settings
2    sudo nvidia-xconfig --no-composite
3    restart

and

Code:
Note: For VDPAU users , you need to have NVidia 190.42 drivers to use a full featured VDPAU. Use the following PPA to get the drivers for your distribution.

    * Nvidia Vdpau Team PPA
      Code:

      deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/ppa/ubuntu <distribution> main
      deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/ppa/ubuntu <distribution> main

which one should I prefer?
And I guess this does imply not to use the default "restrictd driver" tool coming with ubuntu?

EDIT:

on the nvidia-vdpau PPA was another link to a ppa which has a more recent driver.
I did install these, how can I now find out if i have the whole movie accelaration?
My system is a atom525 on ION2 with 1GB RAM.
System is Ubuntu 10.04, installed from the main xbmc ppa

I tried some 1080 Intros from demo-world, and they did lag a lot.
used the killa sample and hd_dolby_city_redux.
I guess vpdau is used, because in most videos the xmb-cpu usage ist about 12%, highest was 24% with an mkv video

guess i have to work through http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=34655
will take a while Sad

for this debug log, i opend xbmc, played 1 video and closed it
