I've had this problem for a while but haven't had a chance to troubleshoot. Stereo sound works fine on xvids but when I play an mkv, I get no sound. I tried the same mkvs in Boxee and the sound works and I reinstalled 9.11 and the sound works.
I'm currently on r33288, but it's been like this since the nightlies started again.
Just installed CrystalHD r156, but it was the same with the previous one.
Output is over HDMI just to a TV, Sony Bravia KDL-52V5810.
Apple TV running aTV OS 2.0.

I've played around with audio output settings without any difference (noise on one configuration), they're currently at:
Audio output: analog
Speaker Configuration: 2.0
Boost volume level on downmix: true.
The next six options (ac3/dts/aac/mp1/2/3) are all greyed out.
Audio output device: Default Output Device
I don't have the time to go Linux yet so would love to get this sorted.
