Compro K300 Remote
#16
Start XBMC then enable debug logging (System settings, System, Debugging) and close XBMC again. Now start XBMC, press the up button a few times then close XBMC. Now post your xbmc.log on pastebin.com and I'll have a look. A quick way to open xbmc.log is to press Windows-R and in the Run dialog type:

%appdata%\xbmc\xbmc.log

and click OK.

As far as I can see your remote is working as it should. For example you say that when you press the up arrow Showkey reports:

<up>Notification(Key, up, 3)</up>

This is exactly what it should report and indicates the the button sent a VK_UP keystroke. If the up button doesn't work there must be a problem with the key mapping. Hopefully the debug log will give us the reason.

I am new to XBMC and have been trying to get 2 “MCE” clone remotes to work under XP. I have read about all I can find in the forum, but it is difficult to search for “XP” as it seems to be ignored.
Both work my laptop Win 7 Media Centre perfectly.

I have tried a Compro K300 without much success, the Compro drivers do not work at all on one system, and looked the same on a second, until after one reboot it worked for 4 minutes before the Compro application died "sorry I can't continue", it never worked again. I have just sent it back to the supplier as mine had faulty buttons anyway.

Before I sent it back I added a line to the IRBUS.INF to allow the Microsoft driver to load.
It now almost worked, but any button press resulted in a continuous stream of data, under NotePad the number pressed just filled the screen, in XBMC the program just goes wild....(this k300 remote is not available any more).

I tried the same with my next choice an ANYWARE HA-IR01SV and its IR Dongle TSDX-IR14, I put the USB\PID into the IRBUS.INF file, the eHOME HID device is there and the MCE keyboards are set up (just the same as the K300) in hardware manager.

But this remote does nothing at all....... but when tested with WINlirc’s IRRgraph.exe it produces a waveform identical to the k300 (on both IR dongles) but no characters into NotePad and no output to XBMC.

Ideally I should switch to Win 7 but that is too costly right now.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have been looking for info for days but missed this
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=78179

Following this topics request for info
The Compro K300 is Vista and Win 7 certified, and claim to work on XP.
The ANYWARE HA-IR01SV is Vista certified and claims XP and Win 7 function.

Please see my post above

The ANYWARE HA-IR01SV is listed as an eHOME compatable in the wiki on remotes.

Both IR dongles listed above pluged into my win 7 laptop are automatically reported as eHOME IR devices and work with either remote.

I was carefull to not use the biult in eHOME IR device when testing, because both remotes worked media center faultlesly both routes.

I am not sure that the thread I have found addresses the driver issues I have
I will of course try the help provided there.

I think the problem is WinXp Pro sp3 is not WinXp MCE.

Elitegamer360's help did not work for me.....

BUT interestingly I looked before applying his registery patch Shocked none of the registry items existed.

After Applying the .reg patch I gained much more than provided in the patch file.

I supect there is a bit more missing that comes with WinXP MCE registry settings. Does anyone have links to whats different in the WINXP MCE registry?

I now have the remote Elitegamer360 recomends Formosa RC118 & IR605A dongle, as well as the HA-IR01SV & TSDX-IR14 dongle.

I can report that by putting the USB\PID gumf into IRBUS.INF for both IR recievers, that I can get no output other than RAW data with IRgraph.exe, no comunication with XBMC.

BUT after messing around with WINLirc I was able to create WINLirc config files, but I failed to find out how to get WINLirc to talk to XBMC

So I tried EVENTGHOST, I don't know why I didn't go there first, and all is well.

I have done a basic setup to Eventghost and XBMC is working by remote, on 2 systems, a different remote on each.

Any pointers to a set up for Eventghost XBMC2 plugin, that gets XBMC working to its best would be appreciated. (to save my now very tired brain)

Thanks CellZapper

Notes

I did try in my messing around adding the USB\PID info for the IR dongles and the keyboards to KEYBOARD.INF and INPUT.INF,
but it seems not to be required as nothing appeared to change in the installed HID and KEYBOARD devices in device manager,
And on installing remote on the second system I only modified the IRBUS.INF (NO registry changes) and it worked fine with eventghost 1st attempt.

AIM RC118 & IR605A dongle (Formosa21) (Maplins part no. A49HA)
Anyware HA-IR01SV & TSDX-IR14 dongle. (Topseed) (Amazon.co.uk)

Both working on WINXP Pro 32bit sp3 using IRBUS.INF patch and Eventghost 0.4.1.r1544

I could have probally got the Compro K300 working by the same method, I will never Know.

You can use
http://winlirc.sourceforge.net/WinLIRC_Helper.exe
to map between lirc key presses and key presses on your keyboard
WinLIRC, the Windows port of LIRC (Linux Infrared Remote Control):

Thanks for the link DUKEY.

I have had abreak from frustrating activities ...... and I am about to try to start using it on my HTPC.

Other products that I want to use with a remote, support Winlirc as their primary remote interface, so I don't want to use multiple converters (eventghost) clutering up my system.

But I note from the topic below, that Winlirc is still not supported in XBMC

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=34378&page=5

Has any one had success in using Winlirc on XBMC, help required in using it in XBMC.

Thanks CellZapper
