[LIVE] Dharma/Ubuntu Dual Boot Splash
#1
Hi everyone, i've been playing around with XBMC and Ubuntu for several weeks now hoping to get my perfect configuration up and running.

Due to sound issues with Ubuntu and XBMC i finally came up with the idea to try the Dharma beta Live version in a dual boot configuration with Ubuntu.

Almost everything seems to run fine except for one (last?) thing.

First i installed and configured the Dharma Live beta part. After configuring Dharma i installed Ubuntu Lucid 64 bit in a dual boot configuration. After having installed Ubuntu 64 my nice Dharma XBMC splash screen was changed to an ugly text based Ubuntu (purple background text-based) saying "Ubuntu 10.04" (with small text based dots beneath) splash screen No.

My Dharma installation /lib/plymouth/themes/default.plymouth looks like this:
Code:
[script]
[Plymouth Theme]
Name=XBMC Logo
Description=A theme that features a blank background with a XBMC logo.
ModuleName=script

[script]
ImageDir=/lib/plymouth/themes/xbmc-logo
ScriptFile=/lib/plymouth/themes/xbmc-logo/xbmc-logo.script

I've searched the forum but haven't found anything close to a solution for recovering my XBMC Splash screen.

Anyone knows what i could do to try and recover my nice Splash screen ?

Thanks for your reply! Now i have tried it but it doesn't change the actual splash screen. The Ubuntu text boot screen remains, no XBMC boot screen or whatsoever.

The only thing that was changing was the resolution of the Ubuntu 10.04 text and the dots beneath.

I just checked out the plymouth theme folder and it looks like plymouth is using the "text.plymouth" file for the splash screen instead of the "default.plymouth". The contents of this file:

Code:
[Plymouth Theme]
Name=Ubuntu Text
Description=Text mode theme based on ubuntu-logo theme
ModuleName=ubuntu-text

what graphics driver are you using?

Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure plymouth && sudo update-initramfs -u

Hi Megatron,

First of all thanks for your replies, i have reinstalled my HTPC, this time i first installed Ubuntu and afterwards i installed XBMC Live Dharma and by doing it in this order both my splashscreens are okay!

Of course this isn't really a solution, but iin a way it was the fastest.

I think the cause of the problem has something to with grub and which grub.cfg grub uses after a dual boot installation... i'm no grub expert but maybe i should look into some Grub documentation Nod

But to answer your questions: yes my Ubuntu splash screen was Okay (low res after Nvidia driver but nothing different from what i expected it to be)

I don't know which version Nvidia driver comes default in the LIVE Dharma beta release but i hadn't upgraded it.
