I'm trying to do an in-place upgrade from a 9.11 installation on MacOSX.
Is there a how-to?
I tried just dragging the app from the installation package like a normal install but it halted with "xbmchelper in use" error message.

Just kill the process before copying; or log out and then back in and do the copy.

in Terminal do

ps -ef | grep -i xbmc

You'll see a line for the xbmchelper process. e.g.

502 12242 1 0 0:00.02 ?? 0:00.04 /Applications/XBMC.app/Contents/Resources/XBMC/tools/osx/XBMCHelper -x

That 2nd number is the process so you can kill it using

kill 12242
