XBMC Guide data for PVR Front End
#1
I was in the car on the way home and I got to thinking.... Yeah, I know.

A series of Media Library instances would be perfect for viewing of guide data. Not just a single media library, but multiple media libraries. A series of separated media libraries, each in their own 15 minute timeslots. A overview of each of these media libraries in a grid view would be able to show 1/4 scale banners of each timeslot.

From my experience in mythicalLibrarian, all this would require is a Title (offered in most guide data) and for even greater accuracy a Zap2it id could be utilized. All logical guide data contains a Title and most contain Zap2It id. The lookups would require quite a bit of bandwidth, but the entire media library could be generated up to two weeks out giving plenty of time for the lookups to take place on theTvDb or TheMovieDb. For shows without guide data (Zap2it ID: SH*******) The title could be displayed instead of a banner.

Library 0 would contain tile "37-2, Local News", Libraries 1-1344 would contain two weeks of Title information from the last update, which would get replaced by a TVDb/IMDB banner if Zap2it id matches EP****** for Episode, or MV****** for movies. Without Zap2it information, it would be a blind lookup, or just text in the timeslot. 4 of the libraries 1-1344 would be displayed on screen based on how many 15 minute increments have expired since last update.

Each timeslot database would need to contain the following
Timeslot =YY-MM-DD,HH:MM
Show Title, Show Zap2it ID, Show Image Location, and additional programming info extracted from the guide such as subtitle and airdates

Database 0 would contain
Timeslot = time database was last updated
Official Channel Title, Channel Number, Channel Image Location, and any additional information like friendly channel number.

Optimization of lookups could reuse Show Title and Zap2it id to assign images which have previously been downloaded

I just thought I might share this as an effective method of assigning guide data to TV programming. It may seem like something from the future, but all the pieces are there, it's a matter of connecting them and putting them on screen.
Use mythicalLibrarian to make a library out of your MythTV files. Leave the recording to MythTV and use XBMC as your library.
