I have my Acer Aspire Revo hooked up HDMI to my Panasonic plasma which supports max 1080i. I am wondering why in XBMC the max resolution I can choose is 720p. Is that because the resolution in X windows isnt set high enough to support 1080i? If I run a really high res in normal X, I cannot even read the text when in normal X. I would like to run lower res when using my Revo as a computer and 1080i in xbmc.

If it only supports 1080i and not 1080p I'm guessings it's a 720p Native plasma, or even 1024x768. Find out the native resolution of the TV you're using and set the resolution to whatever it is. That way you'll get a much better picture quality with no scaling of any sort.

exactly. 720p is what X is reading via EDID and usually that's also the preferred/native resolution.
