Dharma compilled by mistake, switch to 9.11 or wait for addons?

I followed this guide--
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...ian/Ubuntu

And ended up with one of the beta versions, so now I can't use all the old plugins. Not really happy about running a beta version, I just want to watch stuff, not muck about with betas, but it does seem to be working, so maybe I will just stick with it.

How long is it likely to be until more addons become available? You guys think I should keep using dharma or compile 9.11 instead?

Use dharma. Pretty soon Final is out and add-ons are being added to repositories every day.

Have a look: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Uno...positories

Lot's of add-ons other that those on official repo.

Cheers for the list, looking forward to seeing it grow!

Well I've been playing with dharma, and come to the conclusion that I like it, but it doesn't work properly! (Thats why I wouldn't have used a beta in the first place if I knew.) The guide I linked to should probably be updated to mention that users will be getting beta software. It took me about an hour to discover that the reason I couldn't do things I wanted to was because I was using a totally different program to what I thought. Less experienced users might well have junked the whole thing and installed ms media center instead.

Will probably stick with it for now as due to unrelated issues I am using my htpc as my main rig at the moment so can cope with restarting the system occasionally. Havent looked into it much but I disabled the debug build part when compiling so I don't think I can make bug report...

Non beta - or svn for that matter - users shouldn't use that guide. Any user that compiles from svn source must bare in mind that problems/glitches/breakouts do and will happen compiling svn HEAD.

You should have used this guide: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBMCbuntu

Far more user friendly and far less prone to problems.

Anyways, FYI you ended up compiling svn HEAD at that time, which as you may guess is even more problem prone than dharma beta.

Have a look at this repository: https://launchpad.net/~team-xbmc-svn/+archive/ppa

It's home of dharma beta2 and you may add it to your system with with the following commands:

$ sudo apt-get install python-software-properties pkg-config
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc-svn/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install xbmc-live xinit x11-xserver-utils

This will give you the xbmc install. Then you need alsa, nvidia and some other stuff (you may look at the XBMCBuntu to have an idea).

NVidia drivers are available here: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

Same logic as above to add repository and than issue $ sudo apt-get install nvidia-current.

But first, don't forget to remove all the stuff you installed as xbmc build deps...

"Non beta - or svn for that matter - users shouldn't use that guide."

Fair enough. But that wasn't mentioned in the guide, so I didn't know. The way the links are arranged, (I arrived at that page from the "download xbmc" link on the main page), led me to believe I was installing a stable version.

For reasons that don't really matter here I rather dislike ubuntu. I wish to use stable debian, so I have to compile from source or use unstable packages. I do not want to mess around with unstable packages, so I compiled from source. It just happens I used the wrong source. Oh well.

"Anyways, FYI you ended up compiling svn HEAD at that time, which as you may guess is even more problem prone than dharma beta."

What joy! Either I am somehow mentally deficient, or these things are not labeled well enough. I suppose the one good thing I can say about all of this is that the development version ran well enough that I thought it was the normal version. It ran perfect until I started using addons.

"Have a look at this repository: https://launchpad.net/~team-xbmc-svn/+archive/ppa"

Seems to be for ubuntu only. While I'm sure a ubuntu version could be made to work in debian, its far less hassle for me to compile myself, if I compile the right code.
