I am running XBMC on an rather old Ubuntu 8.04 computer. But the rendering gets a bit weird in XBMC (see below). If I use ffplay it looks good.
I have tried both the version in the PPA and compiled xbmc and the ffmpeg library myself, both with and without --enable-external-libraries (which required me to change the final build step that added -lavcodec and -lavutil in the wrong order).
My architecture is i686.

Upgrading Ubunut is unfortunately not an options as ATI has stopped developing the drivers for my graphics card, so I can't get TV-out in newer versions of X.
