One Library did rule them all - but not now
#1
I run XBMC on my imac, and on 2 appletvs. I've been running the single library database for many months but recently updated my atvs. They now say the database is the wrong version and cannot update it. Past from the log below:

15:42:31 T:2684407808 M: 64819200 NOTICE: Attempting to update the database xbmc_video from version 34 to 40
15:42:31 T:2684407808 M: 64815104 DEBUG: Mysql Start transaction

15:42:31 T:2684407808 M: 64802816 DEBUG: Mysql rollback transaction
15:42:31 T:2684407808 M: 64806912 ERROR: Can't update the database xbmc_video from version 34 to 40
15:42:31 T:2684407808 M: 64729088 NOTICE: Attempting to update the database xbmc_video from version 34 to 40
15:42:31 T:2684407808 M: 64729088 DEBUG: Mysql Start transaction
15:42:31 T:2684407808 M: 64724992 DEBUG: Mysql execute: alter table settings add NonLinStretch bool
15:42:31 T:2684407808 M: 64729088 ERROR: SQL: Undefined MySQL error: Code (1060)

This goes on forever. Is the only solution to get all instances of xbmc onto the same version and then create a new database?

Your post lacks the most important information. What version and revision of XBMC you're using?

uhm yeah, you need to use the same version on all, there have been database changes

Thank you

So . . .
  • I need to be on the same version for every instance of xbmc,
  • I can't export and then import my current library because the databases have changed,
  • I'll have to ditch my current library and recreate the library from scratc
h

Have I got that right? I'd like to make sure before I put the effort in again . . .

whenever you update, its always possible for the database to be upgraded to a higher version.

you should make a backup copy of the db BEFORE you upgrade

once you have a working database again, you should export it to individual files which will save the art and nfo files, then rescanning will not be such a pain.

or use media companion or other scraper program

* pretty much yes, you need to use revisions that use the same database version in any case
* I don't know, if your existing database is recoverable, you may be able to export it or continue using it
* see above, if its not recoverable, then yes you will have to rescan/rescrape. I recommend you export to individual files once you have rescanned everything
