IIRC, XBMC on ATV OS will always peg the CPU at around 30%-60% even when idle because of the constant refreshing of the interface at 30 to 60 times a second.

The Beagleboard project is trying to resolve that by moving from a constantly updated interface to an event based one that only updates when necessary. Once that is figured out and checked-in upstream everyone on every platform should see a huge drop in their CPU utilization.
