[LINUX] Dharma Beta 2: Login Prompt?
#1
Hi,

I've installed the Dharma Beta2 Live CD to my Acer Revo 3610 hard drive and for some reason it's not automatically loading XBMC? It's taking me to the shell login prompt, I enter xbmc/xbmc and can log in fine. XBMC starts and runs fine with 'xinit xbmc' once i'm logged in. Anyone else had this? Pullin my hair out here!

Thanks in advance.

Why you don't use Dharma Beta3?

One of the current annoyances with live is that it shows a login prompt for a few sec. Give it time, you should be presented with the GUI. if it takes more than ~15 sec, or if it never happens, please file a bug.

Exactly the same problem in Beta3. I'm bemused that no one else is having this problem with a Revo 3610. Oh well, looks like it's back to Camelot!

Did you miss the last part of my response? If it's happening to you, it's probably happening to others. Please file a bug on trac so that we can track down the problem and fix.

Musti,

You didn't happen to go through the steps on that whole 'Dharma Quick-start Guide on Acer Aspire Revo 1600' thread, did you? All the Nvidia upgrade steps in that thread also result in the thing you're seeing, if I recall.

Regarding the login prompt that theuni mentioned (15s), that only happens on the first run after install to my knowledge... on mine it's more like 5s.

Well i'm back up and running on Camelot now. I was originally on Jaunty Minimal + XBMC but I needed Karmic for the better Cyberlink Remote driver support, which Camelot Live gives me. Plus it boots so much quicker than my minimal install did! Very impressed!

Anyway, I did some further digging on my bug and it appears that its actually a known bug in ubuntu 10.04 minimal, looking at my boot.log the root cause of my problem was:

GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/531027

Guess i'll have to wait for a fix before moving to Dharma. Anyway thanks for your help guys!

Afaik, this happens for everyone still. No cause for alarm.

If we can't reproduce, we can't fix. We depend on users like you reporting problems and providing information so that we can squish bugs.

Could you please pastebin your boot log and xorg log?

Sorry, I'm back on camelot now and really don't want to back through that again. Unless you can think of a way I can do it without breaking my camelot setup, maybe i could try installing to sd and see if i get the same problem? Happy to help if i can.

There was also another error about being unable to access /home/xbmc/.xbmc... it was trying to run some .SH file in there and couldn't access it, along with some guisettings.xml file. Is this something you've seen before?

I just installed Dharma Beta 3 on an Acer Aspire Revo 1600 and am having the exact same problem. I'm dumped at a login prompt, if I log in and type "xinit xbmc" xbmc starts fine. I was getting some ACPI errors originally so I added acpi_enforce_resources=lax to grub, that took care of the errors but xbmc fails to start with or without that line in grub.

My boot.log is here.

My Xorg.log is below, but note that the output is from when I manually started X, otherwise X never starts. Pastebin dies when I paste it in for some odd reason.

I filed a bug report per theuni's recommendation. Here's the link, it includes more information and links to more logs.
