What is the output of:
I had the same problem with some version of alsa and nvidia drivers.
Updated Alsa to 1.0.23 and nvidia drivers from x-swat and it worked.

You need a current kernel and some alsa-patches. Please join us in the GT 430 thread and share your experience.
