Zotac IONITX variants, which one to choose?
#1
Hello,

I am currently using a Zotac IONITX-B-E and made good experience with it. I would like to build a new ION system, and wonder what the differences of the Zotac boards are. So I compiled a table below. I assume that XBMC would run on all of them playing back HD contents? Which one is good value for money?
Cheers,
peter

So this post is several months old, but anyone reading it now (Jan. 2011), note that MicroCenter (computer retail store in the U.S.) seems to be clearing out some Zotac gear. The IONITX-B-E is down to $103.99 at my local store; see: http://www.microcenter.com/single_produc...id=0314700
I have a IONITX-B-E and am impressed with it for XBMC. The on-board nVidia 9400M graphics (PureVideo HD, CUDA) have no trouble with 1080p HD playback. I'd say it's a good low-end XBMC mobo.
MicroCenter also has the IONITX-A-U (N330 variant) for $179.99. This board comes with a 90w power supply, which saves you a few additional dollars.

For anyone picking up this thread now, the IONITX-B-E is now down to US$83.19 at Microcenter, so definitely a good deal for a mobo with HDMI out that can play 1080p! And audio over HDMI works, FWIW, with at least the Nvidia Linux 256.53 driver.

How much ram you got? I'm thinking of getting the IONITX-F-E and put 4 gigs and run ubuntu.

I'm running XBMCLine on a IONITX-F-E with 1GB ram and it's plenty fast.

I now have a second Zotac based system, this one using the IONITX-L-E. This system is significantly faster booting (cold or standby) then the IONITX-F-E.
