Did you get it working yet? If not, I will try to post my config files here for you. Also are you using the xbox to USB cable with the adapter now and have it showing up with lsusb?

Hi hogfan, I finally got the Xbox DVD remote working this morning

My problem was my home made converter cable (see below). Thanks for all the help.

The Xbox to PC USB controller/gamepad converter cable I ordered from Ebay (about £6 including postage and packing: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1-5m-X-Box-USB-Cab...362wt_1141) arrived this morning. I plugged the Xbox DVD IR receiver into my laptop running Ubuntu 10.10 / XBMC and ran lsusb in the terminal (as mentioned above) and the remote was listed - yay!

I then followed the instructions here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=666929&postcount=3 and then the instructions here http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=678...stcount=18 (both pointed out by The-Boxhead) - it took a couple of minutes - I then started XBMC and the remote works...very happy.

is it ok to use this thread for my problem, i have also trouble with the dongle on my machine,

i just switched from Ubuntu 10.04 and pre Dharma to 10.10 and dharma and ran into the xbox dvd dongle problem.

After I followd this guide http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=666929&postcount=3 lsusb and the lirc restart do both hang.
It just sits there and does nothing.

I used xbmcfreaks image for installation, is this the problem?

The device is not listed in /proc/bus/input/devices, should it be, or after lirc startet succesfully?

UPDATE:

when I remove the lirc-module source package lsusb start working again, but also the wrong modules are loaded.
Reinstalling the package gives me the right loaded modules:


#lsmod|grep lirc
