Black Screen ATV after installing Nito
#1
I have had been using XBMC on ATV for about a year, and today I tried to install NITO onto the box and now after the initial Apple intro & log I get a black / blank screen.

I have tried using the USB flasher and restarting but nothing seems to work.

I cannot get into the Apple menu to do a factory restore or anything.
The culprit, I'm guessing is the following.

Quote:Failed to allow loading of appliance /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/PlugIns/ATVFiles.frappliance

Can still shell into the ATV & I have been trying to find the relevant plist to edit / but really not sure.

Any suggestions as to either completely reformat the box or
what to edit to get it working again.

Thanks in advance.

As always seems to be the case, I have found a recreate solution here: http://code.google.com/p/atv-bootloader/wiki/ATVBackup
but not tried yet as I don't probably have all the tools. - spoke too soon: links don't work!

You must have installed ATVFiles.frappliance Smile Bad move, it's incompatible. ssh in a rm it. Or force a recovery boot (menu + down).

thanks. Yeah I got the recovery using that method at the umpteenth attempt. Tried it several times and no dice.

I saw loads of posts around similar subject & did notice one of your comments to install XBMC from software menu steering clear of everything else. Wish I'd seen that post earlier.

Thank you.

davilla - pls help. I updated to Dharma 10, updated Nito, then tried Smart Installer, made the same mistake of having already installed ATVFiles...so black screen.

Somehow have XBMC working fine, but do not have the knowhow to remove ATVFiles. I Use Fugu to get into my ATV, but can't find them to remove. Tried Terminal, but am not savvy enough to make that work. Pls tell me like a 5 year old or point me to removing ATVFiles for dummies.

Don't quite understand the implications of "Recovery Boot" as I'm not sure what is involved.

Intel iMac 10.6.5 to 1st gen ATV 2.3.1

Thank you in advance for your patience !

ATV files can be removed through the rm command in terminal
Just find where it is sitting in the plugin directory of finder and remove the whole directory and included files
