Why is this folder created, how do I prevent this from happening? I'm using Dharma RC1.

Because you told it to - you exported your library to separate files.

Mm-hmm. But why only actors, and nothing in movies? It seems the export function is somewhat random in behaviour, at least unexpected...

If you exported from something BEFORE Dharma RC1 then there was a bug in that it would create .actors when you exported to a single folder.
