Can't connect my mini keyboard to xbmc
#1
Question
Hi,

i have just bought a mini wireless keyboard, it says its MCE compatible.

The thing is that XBMC gets the mouse thing and some multimedia keys but im not able to make the keyboard itself work

The keyboard is like this one: http://bestoffershop.com/products/gigaci...112_01.jpg but branded by inves and with spanish "Ñ" on it.

When i put "irw" i get nothing so i searched on forum and on google and finally followed this guide:

http://www.axemansplace.co.uk/2010/10/17...re-remote/

Anyway i was unsuccessfull as now directly when i try "irw" it says "connect: No such file or directory" (before restart it said connection refused).

Anyone knows that keyboard and was succesfull on seting it up for xbmc? I can get it back to the shop so if noone can help ill do, but seems to be a nice keyboard as it has some multimedia keys, arrows keys and even mouse.

One more thing, the keyboard works ok on bios setup, so it works.

Forgot.. im using Dharma RC1 installed on a 16gb pendrive on a Foxconn dt330i.

Thnx !

irw is part lirc which is for using an IR remote control....like the one you use on your TV. Unless there is an IR transmitter on that your trying to use, lirc is not what you want.

The keyboard itself needs to be recognized by the OS. if it is, it will work with XBMC. Have you tested it on another machine? Does it require some sort of pairing between the keyboard and receiver?

z

P.S. To use irw would require an install of lirc which I'm sure isn't native on a pendrive Linux edition. Is this a live version of XBMC?

Completely true.. this morning on the best place to think.. shower.. i thought.. lIRc... IRw... wo why i have the receiver in the rear usb? mmmmm...

Yes.. i don't need to setup lirc.. i need to setup something else.. any idea where to start?

I tested on the HTPC to setup the bios and worked, ill try more this evening (9.30am here) after work. Anyway any idea is well received, as i actually dunno where to start.

And yes.. i had lirc installed from dharma rc1 live installed to usb, actually i started with an apt-get install lirc and it said.. u already have it.. and its updated.

My suggestion: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/keyboards/...vices/3848

It's not really cheap, but it's INSANELY good and since it's a keyboard with media buttons, you don't need to tweak anything. Works out of the box for me.

hmmmm....yea def have something weird going on...I haven't used XBMC for long but I was able to take a wireless kb and mouse off a windows pc and worked straight away.....then bought a Rii mini and it worked straight away

didn't have to load or tweak anything

and I can also second the Rii Mini.....decent price also

I like the diNovo but its too expensive when u want to mount a cheap HTPC (foxconn nt330+ram+SD card costs about 210$.. the remote 150.. mmm..), and the Rii.. actually i dont like its distribution of keys, i preffer the one i bought and i can have it now. Ships from ebay to spain gets about 3 weeks.. perhaps i wont have it on holidays so..

Ill try today mine on windows to check if works ok, it must be just some setup on linux, shouldn't be much problem. Ill also get a standard MCE remote and have actual one for keyboard functions, much confortable than the Rii one (for me) and cheaper than the diNovo.

Any way, any suggestion on how to setup it is well received.
