[Linux] Audio setup problems
#1
Hi,

I'm trying to get xbmc running on my Asus Asus-AT310NT nVidia ION motherboard, and I'm having problems with the audio.

I already have Boxee installed on this machine, and the audio works there. I'm using the optical output, since I couldn't easily get the HDMI to work, although I don't ultimately care which of the two I use.

In Boxee, both the audio and passthrough devices are set to "iec958:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0". (These are options from the pulldown menus, not custom settings.)

So far the closest I've gotten xbmc to working is by entering those strings as custom settings. When I do this, the audio fails to play when I first start playing a video, but if I toggle it to analog and then back to digital, it starts working.

I'm still working my way through some of the threads here, so sorry if I missed something obvious. A link to a suggested solution would be appreciated, if available.

I tried the suggestion here:

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBM...dio_issues

But the result seemed to be the same.

The OS is Ubuntu Lucid.

Thanks for any help.

My htpc runs the same chipset and the best way I find to get it working is to run the alsaupgrade script ( http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810 ) and then set the audio output and passthrough output to iec958 (with digital output selected of course).

Not sure if that helps, but it works for me. Just remember if you update your kernel, you will need to run alsaupgrade again.
