Using cable box remote?
#1
Hey everyone I'm using xbmc on my revo running win 7. I've bought a remote with ir receiver (this one) but I'm not liking it very much, it will start my xbox and start media center on my pc constantly. All 3 devices are close to one another so that is a problem for me.

I'd like to use the remote that I use with my cable box. I have a scientific atlanta explore 8300hd+

This is the remote that came with it. I'm already using the cable and tv button at the top, but i'd like to program either aux, dvd or vcr to work with xbmc. I know the remote is compatible with the ir receiver because everytime i press a button, a red light appears on the receiver.

Would that be possible, and if so, how?

Thanks a lot for your time!

You could have a look at http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Usi..._with_XBMC but you'll be lucky to get the cable remote to work with XBMC. The red light on the receiver will (probably) flash with anything that sends an IR signal, but that doesn't mean the receiver will generate a signal that means anything to Windows.

If your Revo and PC both have an IR receiver that works with the AVS Gear HA-IR01SV then you will have a problem with the handset operating both at the same time. I don't know an easy way round this. One option would be to buy something like the VRC-1100 (http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Remote_Contr...s#VRC-1100), which is a reasonable remote and isn't compatible with the AVS Gear HA-IR01SV receiver.

I think the AVS Gear HA-IR01SV is MS compatible and can be configured with the MCERemote add-on, so you might be able to get round the problem by playing with the configuration.

You might consider a Harmony remote, which you can configure to operate all your devices.
