Keyboard mapping for Harmony One Remote
#1
I have my harmony remote working perfectly in XBMC. The last thing I need is to configure a soft key to launch XBMC. I set XBMC to launch in windows 7 with the keyboard shortcut cntrl/alt/1...is there a way to map this shortcut to a soft key for the harmony one remote?

The IR receiver is built into my system.

Easiest way is to use one of the function (F) keys and map to that

What system do you have? What (if anything) did you you have to do to get the Harmony working.

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Usi..._with_XBMC has general comments on using remotes.

I have the Dell Zino HD. To get it working I just set up the device as a Dell Zino HD and had the harmony learn from the remote that came with the Zino.

Max, to how would I map it to an F key? I just thought of another thing. I should be able to put a shortcut to XBMC in the Quick Launch bar, and use Win/1, Win/2, or Win/3 to launch it.

I didn't think the Zino came with a remote control. Are you using a remote control with a receiver that plugs in the USB port, or is the receiver built into the case? If the former, is there any model number or make written on the handset or receiver?

You have to add the media remote when you order it. The only reason I did was b/c when you do that they build the IR receiver into the zino. But after I had the Harmony learn from the Dell remote it works with XBMC quite nicely.

When I get home i'm going to try pinning the XBMC shortcut to my task bar so I can map the "Win button/1" shortcut to the Harmony

My understanding was that you can't map button combinations (Key1+Key2...) using the harmony. I am currently just using event ghost to recognize a key to then launch xbmc. If I am wrong, let me know, I'd like to not have to use event ghost.

I will let you know how it works out when I get home in a few hours to test it.

Looks like I found my own answer. The following link explains how to get access to all the Win+,Alt+,etc. key combinations.

Tried to setup my harmony one as a windows media center se device but it is not working. Also tried to set it up as a regular mce remote and still no go. Maybe something with the zino's built in IR receiver. It's not listed in device mgr so i'm not sure what kind it is.

From a quick glance at your link, I think it will only work with an eHome receiver (see http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Usi...in_Windows for what an eHome remote is). If you don't see the eHome receiver in Device Manager I'd guess the remote in the Zino is the cheaper type that sends MCE keystrokes. Grab a copy of ShowKey from http://xbmcmce.sourceforge.net/ and see if it is sending keystrokes. Try with the Dell remote and check what keys are mapped to what buttons.

The Harmony might be able to emulate the Dell handset. Recently I was suprised to find that it will emulate the AURC-001, which is about as cheap and nasty as MCE remotes get.

Yes i can make the Harmony learn from the Dell remote, so I can map any button from the Dell remote to the Harmony. Only thing is the advanced keystrokes i.e. windows key+any number, alt+tab, etc etc, won't work b/c those buttons aren't on the Dell remote.

I may have to end up borrowing a wireless keyboard from someone and having the Harmony learn from that. If I do that, it should be able to learn from any wireless keyboard as long as it's not bluetooth correct?

Any wireless IR (infrared) keyboard. Most wireless keyboards are RF.

The problem is the receiver. I suspect an IR keyboard like the Microsoft IR keyboard will *not* work with the IR receiver built into the Dell.
