HTPC Build: Sunbeam Acrylic Mini-ITX & Asus AT3IONT-I
#1
I am very excited I am going to build two systems one for my friend and one for me.
Will be using the same components for both systems.

Please let me know if the stuff listed on the bottom is ok to start so we can order.

This build will be similar to "npggefvert" http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=82138

A little review on the case: http://www.goldfries.com/hardware-review...ng-review/

Mobo:

Internal USB header to USB:

Patriot Xporter USB stick: It's 8 gigs do I need something bigger?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...-_-Product

Now on the memory I am a little lost should I get one stick with 2 gigs or two sticks with 1 gig each? and what do you recommend that will work?

Also for a remote witch one from new egg? Could you guys please give me links.

Am my missing anything?

Your help is appreciated and thank you. Big Grin

You want two 1 gig sticks. Dual channel memory is a big deal when you are using an onboard GPU.

8GB should be fine, I would still rather have this:

Or any SSD for the better controller card.

Finally for a remote, this is plug and play with XBMC Live:

I have no problem getting that SSD instead of a thumb drive.
I was thinking with that remote the USB sensor still use the USB header and place the IR inside the case in the front "since its clear" so it wont be sticking ouside it should work right?

The SSD i know it has to be hooked up via the Sata cable but how do you give it power?

Also 2 sticks of memory of this should work?

Thank you.

Putting the IR inside sounds ok.

The SSD uses a regular sata power cable like a HD.

I would get a dual channel set instead:

I'd also get some new, LED-less fans, that's going to get annoying.

If you're going for the 'naked' look, the HP MCE remote receiver case is easy to pop apart.

Sorry for all this questions but the Sata power cable so I can hook up the SSD does it come included with the Mobo, the PSU? or do I need to buy one?

Mmmm I don't see one... but I see a Molex... I guess I need to buy this kit to make the SSD work.

mobo, 2gb ram, SSD.. I like those. But I don't like the case, I think for some "crazy" modding it's ok, but for an HTPC? It may be fun when it's new, but it will take you some time to let the inside clean, without cables making it ugly to look into.

Also, I may be ok the first week, but after that.. you'll see how dusty a PC gets, which is OK if you really will clean it every month, but I doubt that. Not nice for a HTPC, IMHO.

Of course, if you like it.. go for it Wink

I was thinking about the dust and you are right! My friend loves this case so we are getting that case but as for me I am thinking to get the Antec ISK 300 or the SILVERSTONE Sugo SG05 case. He just bought that acrylic case so he is going to bring it to me and I will decide if I will get the same one too.

Don't be surprised if the IR reciever doesn't work when inside the case. Just because it's clear to visible light, doesn't mean it's clear to IR. It depends what sort of plastic it's made from.

Also, your motherboard should come with some molex to sata adapters. After a number of builds, I have enough of them to build a small fort.

Would you guys rather do the Asus AT3IONT-I mobo or the ASRock 330ION

Saving money is a must!

Now for windows 7 x86 I only need a SSD that's 30gb?

Ordering parts... thinking of sticking with the AT3IONT it just looks nice Smile

Also thinking about this SSD

Should be able to dual boot with this much storage (30 gigs)? set 8 gigs for XBMC and the rest for windows 7? (might give linux a chance and see the difference between both OS)
