USB TV -tuner for ubuntu
#1
I recently built an ion based HTPC running ubuntu and XBMC Dharma. I was wondering if anyone could help me with the following questions

1) Can I install xbmc and tvheadend on my htpc?
2) If I can't do that could I add the TVtuner to the NAS I am going to build soon.
3) Which USB Tv-Tuner would you recommend for HD Viewing and recording?

Here is the list of parts on my HTPC if needed
MB ZOTAC IONITX-A-U RT

FLASH 8G|PATR FLDRV PEF8GUSB R

MEM 1Gx2|CRUCIAL CT2KIT12864AA667 R

Yes you can install TVHeadend and XBMC on the same HTPC. In fact, TV Headend is pretty easy to install on Dharma XBMC Live. You are gonna want more than 8GB for an OS drive though. I would think a 32GB SSD is the minimum size if you only plan to watch TV and not record it.

As far as USB TVTuners go after this weekend I can finally answer that question. This tuner works 100% with TVheadend:

I will admit though its tuner can't tune weaker signals as good as a HDHomerun can.

Thanks. Instead of buying an HD for the OS could I just point the TV Tuner to my smb server I have right now? If so how would I do that. Thanks a bunch

Hmmm. I guess I would mount it using Fstab.
