[LINUX] Asrock Ion 330, Ubuntu 10.10, AC3/Optical audio help
#1
Hi

I've done a clean install of Ubuntu 10.10 on an Asrock Ion 330, put Dharma on from the PPA, and had a world of pain trying to get audio sorted.

Here's what I'm aiming for:

Essential:
* raw Optical Audio out of DTS/DD material to a capable receiver (has opt, no hdmi)
* stereo output of non-5.1 material to the same receiver, preferable over the same audio cable

Would be nice:
* downmixed stereo output to a television connected over HDMI

I've spent days trying to get this working, followed dozens of guides and tutorials, tried loads of ~/.asoundrc configs, tried nuking pulseaudio, tried a USB soundcard (a CM106 variant - worked but very choppy)

I'd be enormously grateful if anyone with a similar config could advise.

TIA

Matt
