Today's afternoon shell shocker deal:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...785GM-US2H

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...llFullInfo

for $109.98 shipped

Will this be a good start for a HTPC for XBMC and light gaming throwing in a 430 and 4gb RAM?

Poofy what say ye? I know you like the MB! Would this CPU be good or get another? Seems like a great bang for the buck deal.

That is a great Mobo. I can't sing its praises enough. Gigabyte is always a good choice.

Except for my old board that (despite being rated for my Phenom 9950BE) threatened to catch fire until I greatly uprated the MOSFET cooling. In fact a number of people with similar rigs had fires as a result of the poor power design. That's a 140W CPU though, so I guess it's no real surprise!

Yep, I love that mobo. The total price with CPU makes it a steal.

Cool, I will get it to build a new HTPC! Thanks... that CPU should be plenty good enough correct?

With a GT430? Um yes. As is good enough to cut through the meanest 3D content on the planet (which is the overall meanest content on the planet).

Did they fix all the cadence issues with the 430? If not I would go with a 5570.

Um, do you watch a lot of HD content you just shot on your own HD camcorder? If so that is a big deal, as that is the ONLY time you will run into such content.

If not Nvidia's superior 3D support and more robust decoding makes it the easy choice.

For me, any day of the week, I would rather have a GPU that can play any scene release on the net.
