[Windows] Revo R3700 Specs and what to do next.
#1
Hello All, this is my first post as i am new here at XBMC.

First of all to all who have developed it all i can say is that it is world class and it does what it says on the box. I am so impressed I sold my Popcorn Hour and purchased a Revo R3700.

I wanted a HTPC for a long time and with XBMC this ticks all the boxs and more.

Below is a the Specs of my REVO R3700.

1. Standard Motherboard.
2. Standard Processor.
3. 4GB Ram. (Was 2GB)
4. Intel® X25-V Value SATA SSHD 40GB. (Was 250GB)
5. Working to a 42"' Pannasonic Viera TV.
6. OS Windows 7 64bit Ultimate Retail.
7. 2TB External HDD (will arrive Soon).

I know nothing about other OS's but am quiet good with Windows this is why i opted for this configuration. All my media files will be held on the EXT HDD. The media files vary from 1080p, 720p and non standard AVI Xvid files.

I have installed the following software.

1. Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. (Retail)
2. All windows updates. (5/1/11)
3. Adobe Flash Player. (Latest Version)
4. Adobe Air. (Latest Version)
5. Java. (Latest Version)
6. Adobe Shockwave Player. (Latest Version)
7. NOD 32 V4 Antivirus.
8. Firefox.
9. XBMC (Latest Version)

Boot time takes aproximately 20 Seconds. Which is great the SSD helps here.

All I want to use the HTPC for is watching movies and occasional web browsing.

I know there are alot of setup threads and post's, I have been looking at them for a few days now and will be using many of them to help set up my REVO.

Now for my questions, as you guys know XBMC so well any advice is greatly appreciated.

1. Should I make any changes to my installed software. i.e. remove any, change versions or add something else.

2. I dont want to say what is the "'BEST'" but what remote control would you recomend for use in Windows 7 to use with XBMC.

Any other tips, help or input is greatly appreciated.

Regards

1. XBMC doesn't depend on any other apps being installed. It will work fine on the most minimal of Windows installations. Your setup looks fine. If you find you need other apps then install them, otherwise just sit back and enjoy using XBMC :-)

2. By *far* the best remote is the official Microsoft remote or one of the full compatibles. See http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Remote_Control_Reviews for some examples. If you ever want to switch to a universal remote, like the Harmony range, most universal remotes will emulate an MS handset and this makes life very easy.

The MS remote will mostly work out of the box, though not all buttons work. To make all buttons work use either the MCERemote add-on or EliteGamer360's registry script to tweak the remote config. See http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Usi...in_Windows for more info.

Cool :-) I have an MS multimedia keyboard as well, though I must admit that I don't use it much as normally the remote is all I need. However the keyboard is useful for those occasional times when I need to do something in Windows and because it works through the same receiver as the remote no extra setup is needed.

The only irritation with the MS keyboard is if you're balancing it on your knees it's easy to get it out of line with the receiver so it stops working.

Flying Scott, how are you getting along with that SSD? Is the Revo R3700 SATA2? I fancy getting an SSD but only if the R3700 is SATA 2 (I have just bought one for my desktop and when I tried it in my SATA 1 laptop and it had less than two thirds of the speed of when connected to my SATA2 motherboard.

I can't find anything about the R3700 specs anywhere. CPU-z says that mine has an Intel NM10 Southbridge chipset, which suggests to me that it is but I can't determine for sure.

Sorry to bring this thread back but I am about to be in the same boat as Finchy, looking at upgrading all of my Revo 3700s to SSD, does anyone know what version of SATA they have on board.
