See what .xsession and .xinitrc are.
Delete the one that says XBMC, point it to your regular GDM.

Sorry although not a linux complete nuub.. where will i find them if i ctrl alt f2 at login i can lgin to non gui linux

assuming you mean the xbmc-standalone package and you mean the gdm login.
Select the gnome instead of the xbmc session in the lower part of the screen.
