XCI 1.988 follow up, some cure on Alsa & ghost Xbmc process
#1
Thumbs Up
Hi everyone,

I post here my findings on the latest version of the XCI script from X3lectric.
That thread is closed so anyone interested feel free join in.

Problems:
1) Alsa: installation not incorrect/incomplete (driver=still old version)
Intallation of 1.988 version fails in a ghost process.
I've compared it with an older working version of the script to find out what is missing.
One thing for sure, the alsa installation is incorrect/incomplete.
lib & utilities version = 1.0.23
driver version =1.0.20
Why only a partial (driver-only) install?
The complete install turned out not having persistence in the alsa-mixer addon!

2) XBMC = Ghost process after installation
Another issue I found is why xbmc ends up in a ghost process @ starting time.
In 2 lines of the script you'll find an new SWCursor option in xorg.
It appears that this option (occuring in 2 lines of the script) is causing the problem.
I've left them out, and installation runs clean as a whistle Smile

3) others
I've inspected also the other parts of the script and found some other small issues.
we're talking about typo's I think, but I've changed it to what I thought it has to be.
Not really worth to mention, I guess these do no real harm.
Compare to find out with the original version 1.988 if you're curious.

Solution:
As said I had an older version of the script that was working fine,
so I carelfully merged my changes towards the latest version of XCI in
order to have all the latest benefits and findings by X3lectric.
nvidia 260 does not give any problem as far as i can see.
nvidia 256 (which I've re-added for the fans) neither.

What is changed
1) replace the alsa-driver by a manual install.
2) commented out the SWCursor lines
3) I've copied also the code from xbmscript (another nice installer) to add a samba share by means of script.
It's not done the port to the dialog way; so it's not that nice.
Reason: I can't manage to pickup the variables read from the dialogs Sad
Any help regarding this variable is appriciated!
The solution is not so nice i.m.h.o. Things should be in line like the rest of the script.
But it's working though.

Potential remaining issues
All the rest is up to you to test if you're motivated enough to look into the script.
But counting on X3lectric who claims everyone is happy without any problem,
the quality of the installation is looking ok.

DOWNLOAD the script and have fun with it!!
