[LINUX] Apple TVLinux and USB questions

I would like to keep OSX for music and pictures and then boot from thumb XBMC for 1080p

I have a pin87a image on USB and a bunch of files on a 2TB external drive HFS formatted

I would like to use a USB Hub to boot pin87a image and still use my external

At the moment if I plug the thumb drive directly into the ATV it boots ubuntu however like that I can't access my external drive

If I plug the image in a USB hub then OSX boots up

So I am wondring if I have a crap USB Hub or I need to install ubuntu on the ATV hard drive to have both OSX and ubuntu

what model of usb hub and usb flash you are using ?

some times they are not compatible !
first whn I try to run the crystalbuntu from falsh memory i used a 2GB kingmax and it was a no go !
then i reimage another trancent 8GB ! it works
also tested a 8 port powered "Trust" usb hub it works too !

That's what I thought too but then I read someone saying they could boot

My little hub does take also power from a power supply but even when it is connected I think it behaves as it was drawing power from the port and we are back to scratch
I will buy a powered one and try

The USB thumbo works fine in fact it boots when the hub is not connected
