There should be no debate. ATV2 > ATV
The ATV2 can play 1080p video - with only marginal artifacts occurring on high-bitrate videos. The added benefit of HDMI, form factor and appearance make this a no-brainer.
With the ATV, the CyrstalHD card is required to be installed to allow for HD viewing. However, all wifi capability will be lost. Not feasible for some people.
