Got xbmc on my atv2 earlier. Fairly easy process including seasonpass. Here are my notes. No idea if any of this is covered in faq's, docs or whatever. Who reads those!?
1) Can't exit from window mode. Found the post describing deleting the userprefs file
2) On my 1080p HDMI tv, had to adjust video overscan to get the image to fit in the screen properly
3) My Harmony 676 is programmed to act as a remote for an Apple TV 1 (not a v2). As I guessed when I chose this it does provide extra remote control functions that aren't on the standard aluminum remote that comes with the ATV2, and that's outside of XBMC. In XBMC my next/previous chapter buttons on the Harmony bring up a VIDEO OSD that can then be navigated with with the direction pad. Using this you can set bookmarks, audio (analog/hdmi/Optical) output, select ac3 stereo stream etc. No idea if any of that audio switching works, I just output to stereo anyway. You can also change video aspects: ratio, zoom, post processing, etc.
4) Have tried multiple divx/mkv files over a wired ethernet connection with very few issues. In fact, the only files with issues so far are some old Tom & Jerry episodes encoded as xvid 720x526, 29fps ntsc, audio mpeg1 44khz & 128kbps. The video is fine, the audio just drops every couple of seconds. Happens on every episode, out of 100+
5) pressing and holding the menu button brings up contextual options.
6) Occasional random crashes. Seems to happen while launching media, but once a file gets going it tends to be stable
7) How to change the timezone? Seems to be PST
