[Audio] Nvidia and HDMI
#1
[SOLVED]

Hi,

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 32bit on a USB key and than I installed xbmc 10 by means of PPA. Than I upgraded nvidia drivers to the last version.

My PC is a sony vaio FZ31S and has an Nvidia 8600M GS 256Mb.

I would like to listen audio over HDMI in 5.1 DTS and DD.

Setting HDMI in audio output and Default audio device and hdmi or iec958 doesn't work (Dolby Digital (AC3) and DTS capable receiver are selected) and It gives me an error: failed to inizialize audio device.

VLC can do this using Alsa audio output and "HDA Intel: STAC92xx Digital (hw:0,3)".

These are the log file ( http://pastebin.com/CtsyCQmc ) and the aplay -l ( http://pastebin.com/P1mjSz41 ).

Any Idea?

Thanks to all!

Try setting both audio options to Custom and in the custom fields write hw:0,3. If it works on VLC, it could work on XBMC as well.

First thanks you!

Second it doesn't work! Sad

Could be linked to this line in the log?

17:54:52 T:2870221680 M:1577922560 WARNING: PulseAudio: Does not support passthrough

But I want XBMC to work with ALSA and not PulseAudio!

I'm getting it too and I'm pretty sure I don't have PulseAudio installed (at least that's what apt-get is claiming). So it might just be a default message. Dies your system has PulseAudio installed? Reading an XBMC log is quite over my level, sorry.

Try to return the audio settings to their previous state but UNCHECK the AC3/DTS so that XBMC will send the audio as PCM to the receiver. Is it working?

I tryed to uninstall Pulse audio metapack from ubuntu software center and AFTER rebooting I achieved what I wanted!

Now I have:

Audio output: HDMI
AC3 active
DTS active
Audio output device: pulse:default@default
Passthrough output device: hdmi

I tested only AC3 I'll try with DTS!
