Request for a new XBMC Audio Sticky

I look around the threads and there are an awful lot regarding sound issues with xbmc under linux. Probably a lot of this is due to the infinite number of combinations of source files, hardware, software, amps, connections etc. Personally I don't have any major issues with sound only that some files don't give me sound over the hdmi cable plugged direct to my tv unless I workaround by changing the audio settings from 'hdmi' to 'analogue' in xbmc.

What would be very handy would be someone who is authoritative on the subject to document what should work and what is supported e.g. how multi channel audio is passed over various connections, how downmixing options work etc. What the influence of alsa and pulseaudio is on xbmc etc.
I know this is all covered in the forums but it's in a million and one places! There's also a bit in the wiki but it's by no means comprehensive.

Anyone else think this is a good idea? Any volunteersSmile
