I've finally gotten around to porting the Xbox version of Vortex to Win32.

Grab it from here

Update 29-Jul-2012 - Nightly AudioEngine compatible - Vortex 1.0.2
Update 03-Feb-2011 - Vortex 1.0.1
Initial release - Vortex 1.0.0

and unrar it into your addons folder.

Requires ION class gpu or better.

Some info on writing presets here

Cool

Thanks for porting this over. It is the only thing that I missed from my xbox.

It's nice to have that singing skull back.

This should totally be included in the standard install and default viz.

Glad you like it, and you're right, it is nice to have the singing skull back! Laugh

Hopefully it will be included in the standard install at some point but I think there are still some issues with binary addons that need sorting out.

I've got some ideas for new features so keep any eye out for future updates.

Dreams come true Smile

And now ... a linux-port?

I don't know enough about "those stuff", but would it be a very hard task to port it to linux?

Everything is currently hard coded to use DirectX so most of it will need rewriting to make it compatible with Linux.

Its something I hope to do at some point but I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.

@MrC

Sadly i have to say that i have a little problem with the Vortex Addon. It doesn't run with my XBMC 10.0 “Dharma” Sad
The screen remains black. No Vortex tunnel.

OS is Windows 7 32-Bit
HTPC is Atom/ION

Do i have to install an addtional DirectX 9.0 or something in this direction?

Thank you for your effort Smile

Hi and thanks for this!

Windows 7, 64bit, Asrock nvidia ion 330
XBMC Dharma (stable).

Vortext installed, and it says "An Unknown error has occurred".

Paste bin is here: http://pastebin.com/RkKchmLB

I think the relevant portion is here:
15:09:30 T:5872 M:415797248 DEBUG: ADDON: Dll Initializing - Vortex
15:09:30 T:5872 M:415793152 DEBUG: Win32DllLoader::Load(C:\Users\buddy\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons\visualization.vortex\Vortex_win32dx.vis)
15:09:30 T:5872 M:415789056 ERROR: Win32DllLoader::Load: Unable to load C:\Users\buddy\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons\visualization.vortex\Vortex_win32dx.vis (126)

15:09:30 T:5872 M:415305728 DEBUG: ------ Window Init (DialogOK.xml) ------

Is it because I've got x64? If so, any plans to port to this platform?

Thank you no matter the answer!!!

It is working on my Windows 7 X64 machine so that shouldn't be the problem. Sorry I can't help any more than that.

@Bob
You shouldn't need to install anything extra. If XBMC works, Vortex should work.

@steppedup
64bit isn't the problem. Both my dev machine (Core i7, Radeon 5970) and my HTPC (Asrock ION 330HT) are both running Win7 64bit.

The weird thing is that it is working for some people and not for others even though they are running with same hardware and setup.

I'll look at adding some extra debug output in a new version and see if I can get to the bottom of this.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback.

Ok, I think I've found why its not work for some people.

For those that are having problems, try installing it to C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC\addons instead of AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons and see if that helps.

I tried also the d3dx9_42.dll but it didn't help.
Maybe this information is useful that i didn't see the "debug console" from the Vortex addon either, though it was activated. The screen remains black Sad
