I miss this forum.

Now that I run linux on my atv1 (thanks to all the helpful souls here) I apparently have to move on to the linux forum. well, that kind of sucks in lots of ways.

first, I feel like I have a lot more in common with someone running a patchsticked osx on an atv1 than I do somebody running xbmc on archlinux on a quadcore.

second, there are some fundamental similarities between all atv1 owners regardless of the os - we use a severely under powered computer - basically an appliance - so tweaking tiny things to get a little more oomph is what we're all about. A general linux forum isn't going to be as interested in our incremental tweaks.

And third, getting Linux to run on an atv1 in the first place is it's own 1600 post thread which was growing ungainly and certainly merited a place of it's own - which apparently was the Linux forum where it was moved --and closed.

So yeah I'm bitching a little. I think the atv1, due to it's current cheapness and hackability should have a special place. I'm not sure it should be in the old osx forum - but it doesn't really belong in the genpop linux forum either.

I apologize if this appears to be a cross post but it really is not - my first was a brief suggestion in the Linux forum where it was ignored (like most atv1 questions) so I thought posting it here may find some interest.

food for thought maybe.

Some of your thoughts make sense... but an ATV running Linux has more in common with a Linux based computer than it does an OSX based computer (as per this forum).

It's just a pentium M 1.0ghz machine with 256meg of ram and an Nvidia 7300 once you have Linux on it Smile.

I agree with you thnmnt. It never made much sense to me mashing ATV1 with OSX as the ATV1 seems so specialised especially with CHD...but most of the threads seemed ATV1 focussed so I didn't mind too much...now the situation is different...I run ATV1 with OSX not Linux and it feels like well...ATV1 is dying...I can hop over to the Linux forum sure but it seems ATV1 gets little or no ear-time.

ATV1 needs its own forum I think...even though I don't run Linux i'm interested in tracking progress. I may hop over to a Linux install at a future date and I'm for sure interested in anything around native ATV1 install.

Last gripe CHD dev seems to have stalled and I can't see there's likely to be much groundswell for updated versions without a dedicated ATV1 forum.

I think all the work done with ATV1 has been fantastic..its why I'd like to see support continue and the ATV1 forum flourish.

In case you have not noticed, I've been busy elsewhere. CrystalHD is headed toward a re-factor in the near future.

Yeah if you read the roadmap for the next release, CrystalHD support is specifically mentioned as being improved. Once iOS support is nailed down, I'm sure that work will begin.

It does make sense that it be addressed in the linux forum as mentioned earlier, as at that point besides running on an apple made device, its linux period, though maybe on a bit of a strange piece of hardware. I wouldn't think there would be enough interest in the Atv 1 to warrant its own forum here. I am all for the linux forum as well.
