[linux] slow movie start / no subtitles
#1
hi,
i've been using xbmc sucessfuly for the last 2 years now on linux with couple minor problems that I could resolve by search and/or google however
recently however when I moved to new a version I encountered a problem and that I cant handle myself.
My setup is as follows:

-FreeNAS storage serves files via SMB (NTFS partitions)
-zotac ion with atom with Arch Linux (minimal install) as a reciever

All movie files play smoothly (even 1080p), except those with TXT subtitles.
It takes forever to start the movie with subtitles and they don't show up at all.
What I figured out is, when I start the movie there is a "subtitle.txt" file in the ".xbmc/temp" folder that keeps on growing up to 2G
(attached picture from winscp here: http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/7840/xbmctemp.jpg)
Just a simple txt file with all the subs and extra empty data being written to it. After a minute or so file dissapears (deleted) and move starts playin (without subtitles !). Same thing happens when I try to choose subtitles during the movie - but the filename is subtitle.browsed.txt
Same here- file keeps on growing to 1-2GB and vanishes.
That causes the slow movie start - it waits to file grow so large.
Attached is a debug log.

but here's a part of it

ok this MAY be relatedo to either NTFS or SMB

I put my subtitles to local folder (home folder) and it plays flawlessly (no wait time at all)
but when there are subs both remotely in NAS and local folder xbmc seems to be searching for the subtitles remotely first (the location where the original movie file is) and then localy - partialy the same story - a minute wait time before movie starts but there are subs on the movie - I guess xbmc read local ones

temporary solution - MOVE all subtitles to local xbmc instalaton (so xbmc does not read remote ones)

to remind - ntfs via smb through freenas (freebsd) being read by arch linux (ext4 filesystem)
this may cause the confusionLaugh

tomorow I will try to move some of my shares to some linux / solaris not decided yet partitions with either EXT filesystem or ZFS, and see what happens
will let you know

if anybody has any expirience with similar proble please let me know - win box is not an option here Wink

moved to ext4 via nfs - problem vanished - I dunno what was the reason, but its gone. Cost me a couple of days of data moving.
