I have this problem. I get sound from both optical and HDMI and I want the HDMI output disabled.
(yes I can turn volume down on HDMI, but have to turn it back up whenever switching to live TV)

I'd just like to add I have this problem as well. ATV2 / 4.2.1 / GP Jailbreak / HDMI for picture with Optical for sound.

Muting the TV works, but it's not the most elegant solution.
