I've tried searching and I'm overwhelmed about the results because I never figure out if they refer to the first or 2nd edition of the ATV...

I hope to get a conclusive answer...

Is it possible to hook up a small 2.5 hdd to the Atv 2g? So that we can carry a few movies if we're going to a friends house or something?!

Pleaseee help me!

The reason you didn't get more detail is because this has already been answered soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many times.

it's in the FAQ on the Wiki

It's also been mentioned a gazillion times throughout the forum. A quick search would've given you the answer.

The USB port is not/nor will it ever be capable of handling an external drive.

Do you have an iPad/iPod touch?

As you've seen from several responses in this thread, the ATV2 cannot be directly attached to a USB drive. The smallest solution for me is a Seagate Dockstar (acts like a NAS but is no longer manufactured and only available from old stock) and a 2.5" Seagate external drive plugged into this dock.

It is actually quite compact and I first started using it from the days of my XBOX with XBMC.

Another tiny NAS implementation is the PogoPlug though not quite as elegant a form factor.

I have a Iomega iConnect which does a similar job to the Dockstar.

Which is another option for the thread starter.

My weapon of choice is Western Digital My Book World Edition, relatively cheap and available in 1, 2 or 4tb...

I currently have a 1tb version with an extra 1.5tb USB hdd connected, total 2.5tb available through Samba or UPnP if you choose to set it up.
