Video Glitches in XBMC

ATI shows artifacts at the same timecodes as nVidia but they look different.
MPC-HC and VLC show the same artifacts, there might be something weird in the file. Please try reencoding, and maybe with more conservative options.

Any particular reason as to why I don't see any artifacts when I playback the sample on my PC using VLC Portable or with Windows Media Player?? http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/6510/...shotgl.png

Mind you, the sample also plays correctly on my XBMC system with Windows Media Player.

Also, care to elaborate on the more conservative options for re-encoding.

Don't know about Windows Media Player. You have to explicitly turn on hardware acceleration in VLC. No idea if there is something different with VLC portable.
Tested with a 4550 and G210 here.

The encoding options of x264 (or whatever your encoder is) decide which H264 features the encoder will try to use, some of which may not be properly supported with dxva and/or ffmpeg. I don't know specifics, try forums about encoding.

I installed Dharma 10.1 on my PC that has an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS and the sample file plays correctly using DXVA2.

Debug log for that playback session.

He told you....its because VLC does not use DXVA by default. DXVA is causing your issue.

I see this exact same thing all the time when I watch soccer matches in HD that are encoded mastily, DXVA on I get lot and lots of glitches, DXVA off it plays perfectly.
