So I've almost finished my script and it ain't the best in the world but I find it useful.

Anyway, basically it pulls sections of imdb and then lists it in a easy to follow format. You just browse the movies and then once you've found a movie you like then you simply hit ok/enter/whatever on it and it will locate torrents for it (two 480 and 2 hidef but no differentiation between 720 and 1080). It also has rather crappy support for private trackers and will default to using torrents from those before public sites (currently it index's from isohunt). Obviously you can then download the torrents.

Anyway, I mean, it clearly encourages illegal behaviour and being a US site & US foundation I presume I can't release it on these forums? No big deal if I can't as I made it for myself and so I can put xbmc on a pc and send it to my mum but I imagine quite a few users would find it useful.

It's made specifically for the skin I use though

i really like this idea.

feel free to host it on my repo, which specialises in *ahem* ... add-ons of this type.
PM me your googlecode or gmail (a spammable gmail account) address and i'll add you to the repo.

its fine if you make a [RELEASE] thread in addons help/support. i've done it and so have many others.

some suggestions:
would be really good to try and combine as many torrent, ddl and release sites in to one awesome addon.

google searches that do 'site:name-of-your-site.com search-parameter' often help. in the iceflms addon i used the xgoogle module which lets you easily do google searches.

might want to make an interface that works with Confluence, which is what 80% of xbmc users use.

might want to add support for jdownloader addon for ddl

I don't think we will ever allow this in our official repo but that being said. You are not illegal for distributing the addon or linking it here I would say (mind you I am no layer) the person using the addon to download however most likely is Smile You can use this addon for just navigating movies without any intent to download, just to browse for movies (that would tbh be quite a nice addon aswell if you could mark to a wishlist.)

Just my thoughts on the matter, take them with a grain of salt Smile

Cheers,
Tobias

Didn't expect it to ever make the official repository Smile

Your wish has been recorded. My python subject at uni starts in 8 weeks so I am trying to learn as much Python before then. My IMDB downloader should be done in a few weeks so I'll then mod it to a general movie browser. The way it works now is you setup imports when you first run it so you tell it to download say, 200 actions, 200 horrors, 200 comedy movies and so on, setting years as filters and soon filters such as imdb rating and then it stores images and downloads the info and stores it locally - I think if I went a general browser route I'd be more likely to just make it browse live and just cache it as it goes.

Sure, I just wanted to point out that you are free to post the code here if you wish. Its just code, its what you do with it which might make it illegal. Much of xbmc functionality goes along those lines tbh.
